Mettmann – a town about 25 minutes away from the carnival
stronghold of Düsseldorf, known throughout the world for its
Neanderthal, where the remains of a human being from the Stone Age
were discovered in the 19th century. The town can be traced back to a
settlement founded around 1100 AD and today has approximately 40,000 inhabitants.
From the historic city center, visitors quickly reach the
Neanderthal Museum, which impressively documents the fate of the
Neanderthals and the evolution of mankind. The outdoor evolution path
is worth a visit, as is the exhibit of the historic Goldberg Mill.
Economically, Mettmann is known for numerous industrial
establishments. The most significant reginally is Georg Fischer GmbH
& Co. KG. The foundry located on the Flurstraße employs
approximately 1,000 people. At a capacity of more than 190,000 tonnes
annually, the foundry is one of the largest in the automotive sector
of Georg Fischer.
