For many children in Sipili village, Kenya, Kio Primary School is an important part of daily life. It is where they learn, meet friends and prepare for their future. Yet access to safe and reliable drinking water at the school could not be taken for granted.
The challenge:
Kio Primary School has been facing water shortages, particularly during dry seasons. Many students have been carrying water from home, placing an additional burden on children and their families.
The action:
GF financed a recent water project for the school. It included the construction of a solar-powered borehole and water supply system that can pump more than 20’000 liters of water per day. As part of GF's strategic employee volunteering program, the OneGF Impact Fund, one GF employee and two apprentices joined the project on site for ten days.
