World Water Day 2026: Turning commitment into action

Around the world, billions of people face daily challenges related to water – from scarcity to access and quality. On World Water Day, GF celebrates employee initiatives that help to strengthen water security and improve lives.

Access to ...

safe drinking water and sanitation is a human right.

Over two billion ...

people live in countries where water supply is inadequate. (WHO, 2023)

44% of ...

household wastewater is not treated properly, damaging ecosystems and human health. (WHO, 2025)

At GF we contribute to water security by providing Flow Solutions, expertise and long-term social engagement to help transport liquids safely and efficiently while supporting a more resilient and equitable future.

Collective action: GF Walk for Water

The global water crisis takes many forms and limits access to safe drinking water for millions of people. To raise awareness and inspire action, the GF Water Foundation organizes every year the GF Walk for Water, supported by GF. This event brings together GF employees, customers, and partners to walk side by side for a shared cause.

In 2025, 1’650 participants across 13 GF locations joined the initiative. Many symbolically walked with buckets, highlighting the daily reality that millions of people still face when collecting water. Together, the events raised USD 400’000 which support humanitarian projects, including improving access to safe water.

In 2026, the GF Walk for Water will continue to raise awareness of the main causes of the water crisis: climate change, and mismanagement of water. Find more information on the 2026 events here.

Employees for impact: OneGF Impact Fund

Launched in 2025, GF’s strategic volunteering program, the OneGF Impact Fund, empowers employees to contribute their skills and expertise social or environmental projects related to water worldwide. By combining professional knowledge with personal commitment, employees help drive meaningful change. In one of the first projects, a group of employees contributed to renewing the freshwater system onboard the Africa Mercy, a state-of-the-art floating hospital providing free and safe surgical interventions and medical care to people in need around Sub-Saharan Africa.

On World Water Day and beyond, we are united by a shared purpose of becoming better every day in how we protect and responsibly manage one of our planet’s most vital resources.
