Gonzen iron ore mine

The Gonzen AG iron ore mine was created in 1919. Both the GF and Sulzer corporations own a 49% share. Mining operations ceased in 1966.

The mine contains around 90 kilometers of tunnels and rails. It has been classified as a national heritage site and opened to the public in 1983.

Guided tours

Visitors can now explore and learn about the mining areas, transport routes, machinery, mining techniques and infrastructure on a guided tour. In June 2005, another tourist attraction was added to the mountain, which has with the highest levels of iron ore in Switzerland: two huge rock caverns.

Enter the world of the mine: learn how the miners used to work. In the interests of your own well-being, you will have to do without the deafening jackhammers and flammable gases.
