GF Automotive takes second place at ÖkoGlobe awards

2012/10/19 - 11:00 (中欧时间)

The aim of the awards is to highlight environmentally innovative vehicles, drive technologies production processes, as well as mobility and similar concepts. In doing so, it provides a continuous incentive to the industry to innovate and optimize its green credentials.

The jury was won over by GF Automotive’s bionic steering knuckle. Bionics is a combination of biology and engineering. By using a smart combination of design, processes and materials, GF Automotive is able to reduce the weight of cast-iron chassis components by up to 32 percent compared to conventional components. This represents a weight reduction of 2.82 kg per vehicle. Thousands of tonnes of CO2 emissions could be prevented every year simply by installing bionic steering knuckles. The first such knuckles to be developed by GF Automotive are used in vehicles including the Audi A3 and Golf VII.

More than a dozen well known automobile manufacturers, over ten international supplier companies and a range of mobility providers including car-share, airline, rail freight and public transport companies competed for the ÖkoGlobes. The prestigious prizes are awarded by DEVK Versicherungen, TÜV Rheinland and Finanzenverlag in conjunction with the ÖkoGlobe institute at the University of Duisburg-Essen. This year’s competition was the sixth in the series.
