Organized annually by the GF Water Foundation at locations around the world, the event brings together employees, customers, and partners to raise awareness of the global water crisis and to generate funds for communities with limited access to safe drinking water. This event is part of a series of similar walks held across the world at GF sites.
Time Is Running Out
Despite progress, the challenges remain big. According to a recent study by Eawag (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology), “more than half of the global population [are] estimated to lack safely managed drinking water services.”
The GF Walk for Water aims to change this reality. Each year, funds raised through the event support projects that improve access to safe water and strengthen resource management for vulnerable communities worldwide.
At the 2025 event in Schaffhausen, participants were confronted with a striking symbol of urgency. Instead of filling their blue buckets with clean water, they encountered an empty pool containing only a shallow reserve of (symbolic) contaminated water. The absence of clean water served as a powerful reminder: we are running out of time – and water.
A Global Effort
At GF, water stewardship is part of our commitment to society. Through the GF Water Foundation, we support sustainable solutions that protect water resources, raise awareness, and improve living conditions for communities in need. The GF Walk for Water takes place at 14 GF locations worldwide in 2025.
